Have you found THE ONE?
Aaaaand we’re not talking about soulmates. We’re talkin educators. We as business owners should invest in education to grow our business. But I’m sure you know, it’s so hard to know WHO + WHAT + WHICH course, mentor, or workshop to choose, because there are so many amazing educators out there! That being said, before you pick someone and/or before you invest your money, ask yourself these 4 simple questions:
1. Do I feel like I know who this person really is?
2. Do I feel like I could be their friend?
3. Are they constantly putting free education out there on their posts, stories, website, blog, and/or podcast?
4. Do I compare myself to this person, and wish my work could look just like theirs?
If the answer is no, it’s a no. Personally, we want to learn from people who are consistently showing up. Why? Because making YOU your brand as a creative entrepreneur & doing it well, will bring you success. Not everyone can do this well, so when you find someone that does, HIRE THEM TO TEACH YOU HOW. If you want to learn how to market yourself, hire someone who you’ve seen do this time and time again!
Choose someone that you’d know NO DOUBT, I want to learn from THEM and be their FRIEND. A mentorship is personal as well as professional, you don’t want to feel stuck in a (professional) relationship OR constantly feel frustrated + tense because you just don’t vibe with them. You want to feel safe & have fun & learn! You can feel intimidated and uncomfortable with someone you look up to. So pick someone who feels relatable, but also an expert in their craft.
This is such a great way to see if you like:
Now, if you do…do you find yourself wanting MORE? Consider those little freebies: perfume testers. You wouldn’t buy a perfume without smelling it. You also wouldn’t buy a perfume you didn’t like the smell of! So if you do in fact, like what they’re puttin’ out there for FREE, IMAGINE how awesome their content is that you INVEST FREAKIN MONEY in!
If the answer is yes, we don’t think you’ve found the right person just yet. This one is a little controversial. It seems like that would make sense…BUT if you are constantly comparing yourself to this person, we see a possible toxic learning environment. Choose someone that you admire, yes. But don’t invest in education in hopes that your work will become like someone else’s. Invest so that you can soak in that knowledge and make your business unique and YOU. Invest in education where your mentor will be your number one fan + push you to be yourself. You’re never going to feel fulfilled (if you try to be someone else) because you will always be chasing something unattainable. You can’t be THEM. BE YOU. And by the way, I think you are SO SO GREAT!
